Learning Lessons

I am sure, like anyone dreaming of a new business, I knew there would be bumps in the road, but I didn’t REALLY think there would be bumps in the road. When it happens, it’s surprising and it shouldn’t be.

The other day, a beautiful woman came into the store with a fluffy coat she wanted to ship. When she drove up in her (what I believe to be) convertible BMW M4, Taryn and I appreciated the beautiful car. The mature woman who stepped out was gorgeously quaffed and casually, yet perfectly, dressed in a cute, summer outfit of denim shorts, white t-shirt, and classic jewelry. She walked in and said, “I am so glad you are here now. I now don’t have to drive to the FedEx store (that is farther down the busy road).” We were excited to help a potential new customer until she said, “I have a FedEx account number.”

Oh crap. Unlike other FedEx drop-offs, people with account numbers need to fill out a form that goes on the package. We had ordered the forms for this situation and only the international forms had been delivered; we were still waiting for the domestic forms. Embarrassingly, we couldn't help her and I believe we may have lost her as a customer. I explained we would be getting the forms soon and would call her when they arrive. She left without giving me a contact number.

As soon as she drove away, I looked up our order and it seems the order was stuck in the middle of the country for some reason. FedEx apologized and resent them our way. I drove down to the FedEx store and grabbed a bunch of forms from them in the interim. It’s what we should have done weeks ago. We also should have kept track of that order closer.

Ugh! I hate learning lessons, and yet, we’ll never do that again.

I hope the gorgeous lady in the BMW will give us another chance.
