So Close Yet So Far

I want to punch someone in the face. Sigh. Not a specific person, just any person who is willing to let me get my frustrations out. Maybe I should go to boxing with my daughter… probably a healthier action.

I don’t even know what to say since there are so many things going through my mind right now. I typed a bunch of negative stuff but have deleted it and decided to focus on what IS going well.

The countertops are done and they look so good, but it’s the tile that is making the front counter really be amazing. I am so glad we chose to do the facade in a beautiful, patterened blue gray tile. We set up the registers and computers yesterday and I can’t wait to use the scanner for the first time. C’mon, you know it’s fun when you get to use that scanner at Home Depot. The electrician is setting up the power in the front counter tomorrow, so currently we have them hooked up to extension cords so we can make sure they work (not a good look!).

I am loving the epoxy floors and now we can finally see them after the cardboard protectors were removed the other day. They look amazing with the new tile.

We built the racks for the storage space and were able to put things on them to make the back room look less cluttered. The security system was installed by my handy hubby and we can watch people walk up to the building and try to see inside.

All in all, it’s coming along nicely but not fast enough. I have been paying my employees to help get the store ready and look forward to when we are open so there is income to help with that. Luckily, I have a planned for this in my budget, but it still is painful to watch the bank account dwindle with nothing coming into it.

I really want to train the employees this week on all the systems, but the store looks like a construction zone still. My contractor says we’re so close and will probably be done by Wednesday (it is Sunday as I write this) and I find that impossible. I continue to move forward as if that is true because when it happens I will be ready. And yet, this project has been one delay after another. I am trying to look positively, but those negative thoughts sneak in sometimes. That is when I want to punch someone in the face.

In the end, I will forget about all the delays after a month of being open and will remember only how fun it was to get it ready. Every time something new is installed we all get so excited. The other day we tagged all the mailbox keys and put them in a key holder. We all stood in wonder at the color-coded keys hanging there in the box with smiles on our faces. It’s so dumb and so cool at the same time.
