What’s In A Name?

One of the skills I struggle with is remembering peoples’ names. I am always impressed by people who can remember names regularly and easily. I used to be a real estate agent in a large family company with about 6 offices, containing approximately 400+ agents. The company was run by 3 siblings and from day one, all three could say, “Hi Annie” whenever I saw them. I was blown away when we’d be at an all-hands meeting and they would be greeting people by their names consistently. I aspire to be like that.

One of the reasons I wanted to open a store like Arden Dispatch was to be part of the community and say hi to people like at Cheers, “Hey Norm!” Already, there are a few people I am able to greet by name easily; those that come in often or for some reason something makes their name memorable in my brain. For the most part, people walk in and they look familiar and I can say, “Hey!” knowing we have talked before, but it kills me when I have to ask for their names during the transaction.

When people walk out the door, you can find me saying their name over and over as if that will make it stick in my head. Clearly, the only solution to this is every single customer needs to come in often! Help me out people, I need to know your name!

Meanwhile, please be patient with me if I call you the wrong name or just say, “Hey!” We are all working on addressing ya’ll by your preferred monikers. 😊
